About Hal Craig & Trout Creek Consulting

Picture
Hal Craig founded strategy and life science supply chain consultancy Trout Creek Consulting, LLC (TCC) in 2007 on the principle that management consultants with strong problem solving, technical, commercial, project management, and finance skills; significant operating experience; the ability to wear multiple hats well; and industry knowledge will deliver superior value to clients.

An experienced operating executive in FDA-regulated industries, Hal has held EVP, VP, general management, and functional head roles where his responsibilities have included global business units, strategic planning, supply chain, quality and regulatory, and engineering.  His expertise includes Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) and due diligence.  He has built and led successful teams in commercial, manufacturing, technology/product development, and charitable endeavors.  Hal has a BSChE from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

TCC is a member of Life Sciences Pennsylvania.

Where does the name "Trout Creek" come from?  First, there really is a Trout Creek near the founder's home in the hills west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Second, just as trout fishing is a stress reducing activity, the name is meant to inspire the confidence and lower stress that come with better strategies, improved decision making, and effective supply chains.  Finally, the trout in the logo is a symbol of success overcoming challenges - whether in fishing, business, or life.

 About Clients

Picture
TCC's clients have tough problems to solve and important decisions to make; complexity, uncertainty, and ambiguity may be in abundance; and execution resources may be scarce.  A TCC client is looking for someone who can provide a clear, rational path forward and the execution help to get it done.  TCC has helped venture-backed, private equity-owned, family-owned, and publicly traded clients.
Life Science Supply Chain clients may be looking to
  • Have someone create and manage the outsourced clinical and commercial supply chain, oversee CMO process development and scale up from the lab to validated commercial production, and provide CMC regulatory support
  • Transfer production to a new CMO
  • Respond to a drug substance or other raw material shortage

Actionable Strategy and Product Development clients may be looking to
  • Develop a vision of the future and define a plan to get there, complete with action steps and path markers
  • Identify, define, assess (including value), and decide on growth opportunities
  • Understand and forecast both existing and new markets
  • Understand and predict future outcomes, conduct scenario planning with sensitivity analysis, and test strategies on a simulation rather than a live business
  • Improve customer segmentation and retention, market position, cost to serve, and profitability
  • Determine which new products should be developed, where, and when
  • Increase near term profitability and cash flow by turning around an underperforming business
  • Identify and value acquisition targets, determine synergies, evaluate deal structures, or conduct due diligence
  • Obtain an outside perspective on business strategy, R&D priorities, and deal synergies
